Roberto Giobbi "Secret Agenda"

Today being the last day of the year I have completed my first reading of Roberto Giobbi's "Secret Agenda" which contains 366 articles, one for each day of the year including one for leap years. The book is excellent with some good articles but there is also some "filler" as well. However, I have highlighted 14 entries which are outstanding in my view and of these there are 5 which are probably worth the price of the book many times. My highest accolade goes to the entry for May 10th which isn't even about magic directly; it gives advice about writer's motivation which is priceless.

What do I blog?

My daughter asks what am I going to blog about? Just because I have retired from work does not mean that my brain has instantly atrophied! I am going to blog about my opinions on magic, magic books (including my own) and study and anything else that takes my fancy. I think blogging is also good for preventing procrastination as it may force me to say what progress I am making (or not!) on various projects.

BT frustration

On 19th December the engineer came to upgrade the broadband to BT Infinity which appears to be working well. However we then discovered by 22nd December that our telephone number had changed without our knowledge! The order from BT had said it would stay the same. After many telephone calls (to the fault line in INDIA!) and an e-mail of complaint (which appears to have been the most effective) our land line number was restored today 29th December after 10 days. I have also sent a letter of complaint. I hope that our family and friends were not trying to ring us over the Christmas period otherwise they would have got "unrecognised number". Everything is now back to what it was but what was most frustrating is that BT do not have a simple mechanism to report a situation like this - oh for the days when you could contact someone at your local exchange to put something like this right quickly and efficiently

first attempt

This is my first attempt at blogging so I have a lot to learn!  I retired as a Senior Crown Prosecutor in August 2011 so I am now looking at new challenges. I am Chairman of The Modern Mystic League (Blackburn & District Society of Magicians) which will celebrate the centenary in 2014. I have volunteered to write the centenary history having authored several books on magic history. Having looked at the old minute books and records I now realise it will be a big task as the society has always been an active one! So I need to get down to this so I can have a volume published in time for the centenary.
